Carly Ward was 19 and unemployed when she started her own business - she's now ensuring that entreprenurship is not just for those who have left school...

"I set up the Young Entrepreneur Society when I was 19 - 3 years ago - because I saw a gap in the market when I was unemployed and wanting to start a business.

"There wasn't enough help for young entrepreneurs, so I went out and interviewed some of the top businessmen and women in the country and created a training programme, to teach young people entrepreneurial, personal development and life-skills.

"The programme will be funded into every school and college in the country, putting entrepreneurship on the curriculum.

"What's stopping young people start a business is a lack of confidence, which is why one of the steps in the programme is confidence building. Many young people don't have any self-belief, but when they need money, people may not take them so seriously because they think 'Oh they're young what do they know' - when a lot of young people may know more than others think.

"It doesn't matter how old you are - if you've got the guts and determination, you don't need to have an amazing idea. Obviously we need more people like Steve Jobs and Bills Gates, but what about the small people? - The small businesses that provide the most jobs.  So it doesn't matter how young a person is, as long as they have that determination to succeed and get out and do it.

"Starting a business isn't for everyone, we can't all be entrepreneurs, but if you're scared about starting a business then you really need to get over those barriers and build up your confidence.  I recommend visiting the YES Network, coming to events, and going through the 12 steps to success.

The entrepreneurship programme will be funded into every school and college in the country, putting entrepreneurship on the curriculum.

"This is why we put this programme together, not only to teach business and entrepreneurial skills, but to help you feel confident and to listen to how these people built their businesses from nothing.

"I've been rock bottom - three years ago I was unemployed for 14 months and claiming job seekers allowance, when I had this idea. The idea was scary, but the scariest things are going to earn you the most money and make you the most successful.

"It's about stepping out of your comfort zone and once you've done something you're scared of, then the next time you do it it's not going to be as scary and you're going to be able to move up to get to where you want to be from where you are.

"People look for excuses not to do things, 'there's a recession' or 'it's raining' - they're looking for a reason not to do it. But it's the people that have the fire in their belly, the ones that are really determined to be successful that are going to get out there and make sure that money finds them.

"Because, ultimately, if you have a good idea and you learn to be persistent, never give up and you get yourself out there networking with the right people, it's inevitable that money is going to find you."
