Even celebrities who move into business know that buying an existing business is often the best decision.

When multimillionaire rapper 50 Cent decided that he wanted to get into the headphone business, he realised that his best option was to find an existing company to take on and rebrand as his own.

Last September 50 Cent, aka Curtis Jackson, bought  high-end headphone manufacturer KonAudio, taking on the role of CEO and renaming the company SMS Audio.

Buying versus starting

Typically, only 20% of start-ups make it to their sixth birthday, so buying a business can increase your chances of long-term success.

In 50 Cent's case, buying a fully fledged business allowed him to acquire all the technological knowhow of the previous owners so that he could focus on the product's aesthetics.
